Diving around Sri Lanka is an amazing and extraordinary experience. You’ll explore the underwater world that nature has created β an unimaginable realm beneath the sea that words cannot fully describe.

All dive trips are well organised and carefully planned from start to finish, guided by our highly experienced PADI Divemasters or Instructors who manage dive groups safely and professionally.
Locations
π NEGOMBO
Located just north of Colombo, Negombo offers quick and easy access to exciting dive sites. From the beach or through the lagoon, you can reach most dive locations within 15β30 minutes by boat.
- Second Reef – Shallow reefs at 10-18 m, ideal for beginners and photographers. Expect hard corals, reef fish, nudibranchs, moray eels, and lobsters.
- Third Reef (Diyamba Suda) – Located about 22 km offshore, with depths of 15-30 m. Known for excellent visibility, large coral formations, rays, trevallies, barracuda, and stronger currents suitable for experienced divers.
- Lobster Reef – A healthy reef at around 16 m, famous for lobsters, reef fish, shrimp, nudibranchs, and macro life.

- Goda Maha Gala – A rocky reef with black corals, snappers, lobsters, and moray eels at 12-15 m.
π’ COLOMBO
Colombo is widely regarded as Sri Lanka’s best destination for wreck diving. Most dive sites are reached by boat in 15β40 minutes, with depths ranging from about 18 to 40+ meters. The main diving season on the west coast is typically November to April.
Some of the top dive sites include:
- Thermopylae Sierra β A 155 m cargo ship wreck at around 24 m depth, suitable for Open Water divers with guidance. It’s one of Colombo’s most famous wrecks and is covered with marine life.
- Medhufaru Shipwreck β A popular wreck at around 28 m, known for batfish, moray eels, stingrays, and occasional reef sharks.
- Lotus Barge β An older steam barge with abundant coral growth, ideal for underwater photography.
- Taprobane East Wreck β A deeper wreck suited to experienced divers.
- Gorgonian Gardens β A reef dive featuring large sea fans and diverse reef fish.
πͺ¨ BENTOTA
In Bentota, the river meets the sea near a lighthouse and close to a peaceful monastery, creating a scenic departure point for divers.
After crossing the long river mouth, dive sites are reached within 30 minutes (7β9 km offshore). The underwater landscape features impressive pinnacle rock formations surrounded by abundant fish life, making it a spectacular location for underwater photography and exploration.
π HIKKADUWA
Hikkaduwa is one of Sri Lankaβs most popular snorkeling and diving destinations. You can simply walk into the sea for snorkeling, while dive sites are accessible within 10β40 minutes by boat.
The area is known for its pinnacle rock formations, ranging from small to large. The famous Kirala Gala site is ideal for deeper dives, while the Conch wreck (around 20 meters) offers an exciting wreck-diving experience.
π΄ UNAWATUNA
Unawatuna provides easy access to dive sites, even during parts of the off-season. Boat rides range from 5 to 35 minutes.
The area features two deep wreck dives and several rocky pinnacle dive sites filled with large schools of fish, making it an excellent choice for adventurous divers.
β KIRINDA
Near Kirinda, close to the iconic Great Basses Lighthouse, divers can explore pristine reef systems and deep waters rich in marine biodiversity.
π’ Batticaloa
Batticaloa is one of Sri Lanka’s premier wreck diving destinations, especially during the east coast diving season (May to October) when the sea is calm and visibility is generally at its best.
Some of the best dive sites include:
- HMS Hermes β Sri Lanka’s most famous wreck dive. The carrier rests at around 53 m, making it a technical dive suitable only for experienced, properly certified divers. It’s covered with coral and attracts tuna, grouper, jacks, and other large fish.
- Boiler Wreck β A shallow wreck (about 4β10 m) that’s ideal for beginners, training dives, and recreational divers. Expect healthy coral growth and abundant reef fish.
β Oluvil
Oluvil is home to a couple of fascinating World War II shipwrecks, offering historical underwater exploration opportunities.
π’ TRINCOMALEE & PIGEON ISLAND
Trincomalee is ideal for beginners and snorkelers. You can easily walk into the sea to explore shallow reefs filled with colorful marine life.
Dive sites range from shallow beginner-friendly locations to deeper coral-rich sites, making it perfect for both training dives and certified divers.
At nearby Pigeon Island, snorkelers can often spot blacktip reef sharks, vibrant corals, and tropical fish in crystal-clear waters.
